What is canine flu?

Canine flu is a contagious viral disease that can spread quickly.

How does it spread?

Through contact with other dogs (they do not have to be exhibiting symptoms to be contagious)

Airborne exposure (coughing, sneezing, runny nose)

Contact with contaminated items (food/water bowls and toys)

What are the signs?

A persistent cough

Sneezing

Runny nose

Fever

Loss of appetite

Loss of energy

If your dog goes to any of the following places, your dog is at risk

Dog parks

Dog day care

Boarding kennels

Grooming facilities

Dog shows or events

The best preventative measure is vaccinating.  Hope Animal Hospital does carry the Canine Flu vaccine.

The vaccine helps reduce the spread of infection, common symptoms, and the risk of developing more severe disease.
