Facts

Parvovirus is a highly contagious viral illness

The majority of cases are in puppies between 6 weeks and 6 months of age

It is spread through the infected feces

The survival is approximately 70%

High Risk Breeds

Rottweilers

Doberman Pinschers

Pit Bulls

Labrador Retrievers

German Shepherds

Possible Symptoms

Bloody diarrhea

Lethargy

Anorexia

Abnormal temperature (can be high or low)

Vomiting

Severe weight loss

Dehydration

Possible Treatments

Focus is on curing the symptoms and preventing secondary infections

Hospitalization

IV fluids

Nutrition therapy

Antiemetics

Antibiotics

Prevention

 Begin vaccinating your puppy between 6-8 weeks of age

 Vaccinate every 3 weeks until approximately 16 weeks of age

 High risk breeds may require additional boosters
